Lupus is an autoimmune disease that is all too common but that many know little about. Lupus can cause a large variety of symptoms that make life difficult for patients. The disease has been linked to different genes however it is uncertain whether or not genetics play a direct role in the development of Lupus or if they just increase the odds of an individual having the disease. While there are many different ways to identify and diagnose the disease, there are not as many treatments. Most of the treatments are focused on reducing or eliminating symptoms but often do not address Lupus specifically and therefore, no cure has been developed yet. Experiments - such as those involving mice - and surveys - such as the one conducted by GfK - are both proof that there is continuous research being conducted in attempt to better understand the disease and develop more effective treatments. While some may argue that an actual cure for Lupus is nearly impossible, the research that is being conducted has shown that scientists and medical professionals are getting a better idea of Lupus and that a cure is not out of reach.
